近年、多くの国で都市部への人口集中が進み、家賃の高騰での居住面積の縮小化やルームシェアの一般化が進んでいるため、一人当たりのスペースが狭くなり、広々とした快適な居住空間を得ることが難しくなっています。
そこで、アジア圏は昔から行われてきた「床に座る生活様式」に着目しました。
床に座る生活での利点は、「視点を低い位置において生活することで空間を広く感じれる事」と
「座ったり寝転ぶ機能を床に委ねるので、家具が小型化しやすくなり、その時々の空間に求める事柄によってフレキシブルに配置を変えられる事」が挙げられます。
これらの利点を世界的に主流となっている西洋風のインテリア様式に溶け込ますアプローチを検討し、「sieni」をデザインしました。
座ったり、枕にしたり、抱え込んだりなど、『クッションと椅子の中間のような使用感』で床に近い生活スタイルをより快適にし、『使われていない時も魅力的な佇まい』で和洋ともに馴染むものを目指しデザインしました。

また、クッションとは違い、身体をしっかりと支えてくれるため、ローテーブルでの作業や食事などもしやすくなります。
座面の裏側にハンドルをつけており、部屋の中で簡単に持ち運びが可能です。
このような機能的な要素と優しい印象を突き詰めて検討していく中で、キノコのようなフォルムになっていきました。

In recent years, the increasing concentration of population in urban areas in many countries has led to a reduction in living space due to soaring rents and the generalisation of room-sharing, making it more difficult to obtain spacious and comfortable living spaces as space per person becomes smaller.
This is why I have focused on the 'floor-sitting lifestyle' that has been practised in Asia for a long time.
The advantages of a floor-sitting lifestyle are that "living from a lower perspective makes the space feel larger" and "because the functions of sitting and lying down are left to the floor, furniture can easily be downsized and flexibly rearranged according to what is required of the space at any given time".
I designed sieni as an approach that blends these advantages into the globally prevailing Western interior design style.
The design aims to make floor-based lifestyles more comfortable with a 'feeling of use that is somewhere between a cushion and a chair', such as sitting on it, using it as a pillow or holding it up, and to fit in with both Japanese and Western styles with an 'attractive appearance even when not in use'.
Unlike cushions, the chair provides firm support for the body, making it easier to work or eat at a low table.
A handle is attached to the back of the seat, making it easy to carry around the room.
The mushroom-like form was developed during the study of these functional elements and the gentle impression that they give.
